Pollinators

Pollinators such as bees, butterflies, moths, wasps, flies, and beetles can be found in Ontario. These insects are essential to the ecosystem because they transfer pollen from one plant to another, allowing them to reproduce and produce fruits, vegetables, and seeds. Many of the plants we rely on for food, medicine, and other products would not exist without pollinators.   Pollinators are threatened by a variety of factors, including habitat loss, pesticide use, and climate change. As a result, many pollinator species are declining. Several initiatives are underway in Ontario to protect and promote pollinator habitats, including the planting of pollinator-friendly flowers and the establishment of pollinator corridors.

We can ensure the continued productivity and sustainability of our environment by promoting the health and well-being of pollinators in Ontario. There are many ways to get involved in pollinator conservation and help protect these important insects for future generations, whether you are a gardener, farmer, or concerned citizen.
